'Luva River 2 Day Trip

DAY 1:

The adventure begins with an overland journey into the Namosi Highlands through the lush rainforest interior of Viti Levu. Atop jungle passes, we enjoy breathtaking views of Beqa Lagoon and other coastal areas, before descending into the beautiful and peaceful Namosi Valley. Our journey through this tropical paradise eventually leads us to the village of Navunikabi on the banks of the upper Wainikoroiluva (‘Luva) River, where we take part in a traditional “sevu sevu” ceremony with the village chief. Soon after, we launch our inflatable kayaks and begin our exploration of this beautiful, class II river canyon. Along the way, our Namosi guides will familiarize you with this spectacular countryside through the eyes of a native Fijian. Our guides take great pride in the tradition of old-fashioned storytelling, which includes legends of giants, river serpents, and fearless warriors for which this part of Fiji is legendary.

Our camp is situated on the edge Nakavika Village, where our friendly staff and good food await you at the end of your first day.

Day 2:

After a hearty breakfast, we relax in the village, enjoying the time and visiting the local plantations of pineapple, yaqona (kava), dalo and more. Before departing Nakavika for our river pursuits we once again take part in a traditional “sevu sevu” ceremony with the village chief. Returning to the river and our kayaks, we’re off to face the class II whitewater and rock mazes of the lower ‘Luva River. Throughout the day we will take opportunities to swim, hike to the tallest waterfall in the Namosi Province and enjoy the countryside and quaint highland villages of Fiji’s tropical interior. Eventually we make our way to the confluence of the Upper Navua River and ‘Luva River, where we trade our kayaks for the motorized longboats that will carry us down through the lower Navua River canyon and to the village of Nakavu where we conclude our adventure.
